Are there ways to dust that cut down on allergens?

Category: Uncategorized

I am allergic to dust. Are there better ways to dust?

Since I have the same problem, I have learned some techniques that help me when I have to dust. Of you cannot get someone else to do the dusting instead of you try some of these to help prevent an allergic reaction while dusting. Try using a cloth specially designed to grab the dust and hold it on the cloth. If you don’t have one of those, use a slightly damp cloth instead of a regular dry one. The moisture will help to grab the dust and hold it instead of just stirring it around or putting it in the air again. Be careful not to make it too wet though or to use it on surfaces that moisture can damage. You don’t want the rag wet, just lightly damp. Another way to remove the dust is to use the dusting brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner. The brush won’t scratch the surface to the furniture and the suction will pull the dust in away from the furniture instead of stirring it into the air for you to breathe in. If you are extra sensitive to dust, get a dust mask, the kind used in a woodshop to deal with the dust from cutting wood. There are simple, reasonably inexpensive dust masks, that can go over your nose and mouth and shop safety glasses that will cover your eyes or much more expensive ones that filter the dust better. Try these methods or any combination of them and see if they make dusting easier for you to deal with. Mama Nono
