Do you have to have a license to run a daycare?

You need to check the area you are living in to find out what the rules and regulations are for running a daycare there. Some parents are not worried about whether or not you have a license if they know you personally and trust you with their children. For your own sake and for a wider client base to pull from it is better to get a license. Daycare licensing agencies require very specific things like CPR and First Aid classes, certain safety features in your home and background checks with fingerprint and crime clearance. They do home inspections and give you a checklist of things you have to do before you are granted the license, if something does not meet their standards. If you have a license you also carry more clout as a professional daycare provider. When parents are looking around for daycare and they do not know you personally, they are more likely to go for someone who has a license and has passed all the requirements to run a daycare from their home. It makes sense from a parent’s perspective to find the most qualified place to take care of their child or children. You would want the best for your own children. For advertising purposes, having a daycare license number that they can check is a big plus. As a licensed daycare provider that license also gives you leverage in charging competitive rates for your services. Some people will expect un unlicensed place to charge less. You can also benefit from state or county food reimbursement programs if your daycare is licensed. All the way around it is better to get a daycare license. Mama Nono
