How do I clean my television screen?

The first thing you want to do is make sure the television is turned off and unplugged before you start cleaning the screen. It is safer that way and it is also easier to see the dirt or dust on the screen with a room light on. Whatever kind of television you have you want to be sure you treat it gently when you are cleaning the screen so you don’t scratch or damage the screen in any way. Don’t use harsh chemicals or sprays that you clean other surfaces with like any with ammonia. They can damage the screen. Take off the surface dust first. You can do that with a soft cotton cloth or there are commercial anti-static cloths available or microfiber cloths. Don’t use newspaper or paper towels like you might on other surfaces. They can be rough and scratch the surface of the screen. Gently wipe the whole surface of the screen with the dry cloth. Don’t press on the screens especially on the newer plasma screens. If there are other messes on the screen after you have wiped the dust off, like little kids fingerprints or food from sticky hands that won’t come off with a simple dusting, dampen the cloth slightly, don’t make it really wet, and wipe off the offending marks gently. If the cloth is too wet you may leave streak marks on the screen. Don’t scrub at the spots.Work them off gently. Make sure you check your owner’s manual for any special tips they may have too.
