What can cause

Category: Uncategorized

I wash my clothes carefully but I itch after I do the laundry. What is causing that?

It sounds like you may be having a reaction to something in the laundry. You don’t mention if you are hand washing or machine washing the clothes. If you are hand washing the clothes the issue may be either the kind of detergent you are using or you are not rinsing the clothes out properly. If you are machine washing, you can run the rinse cycle more than once to make sure you get rid of all soapy residue. The problem may be even more basic than that. You may have an allergy to the type od detergent you are using. Try sample packs of alternate detergents in a load of laundry and see if you still have a reaction after the clothes are clean. There are washing machine liquids made for people who are hypersensitive to the perfumes and/or chemicals used in washing machine soaps. Using those can make all the difference for you. That fine itchy rash can be really miserable every time you put your clothes on especially with underclothing or sheets and blankets for your bed. The other thing that may be irritating your skin are any softeners. These are made either in liquid form or in dryer sheets which can really agitate sensitive skin. They may make your clothes come out softer, but what good is that if they are making you itch? So try a free and clear type liquid laundry detergent and no softeners in any form for a while and see if it makes a difference for you. It did for my family and for me. Mama Nono
