What can I do about my child’s fear about using the toilet?

Category: Uncategorized

The toilet seat is too big for my child and she is afraid of the toilet since she fell in once. What can I do?

You can get a separate potty seat for your little girl. They are low to the ground and are easy for them to use. The only problem is you have to empty and clean the removable chamber pot each time it is used which I found to be a pain. They are good for camping and outings though. A better option is one I found worked great with a number of kids. There are smaller potty seats that attach to or set directly on top of the regular toilet seat. The opening is smaller so your little girl can’t fall through and won’t have to balance herself to be able to go to the bathroom. They come in many different styles ranging from simple set on seats to toilet seats complete with a step stool and railing for the child to hold on to. We did fine with a simple set on seat that stayed in place easily and a simple one step washable step stool so they could climb on to the toilet seat. You want to make sure you get a seat that won’t shift all over especially since she has a fear of falling in the toilet. The simpler one worked better for us because that bathroom was also used by adults and the step stool and little seat were easily removable without being cumbersome. The little stepstool was an added bonus since the kids could all use it to get to the sink to wash up afterwards. If you make her more comfortable she will get over her fear more easily. Imagine if you had to balance to use the toilet and how uncomfortable that would be for you. Give her some of the control, make her feel safer and get her a little seat and step stool. Mama Nono
