What basic hand tools would you buy someone for a new home or apartment?

Buying new hand tools for a new homeowner or apartment dweller is a nice choice for a gift. It is something that is going to last for a long time and that can be used over and over again. Think about what you use in your own home for basic needs. A hammer is one of the most basic tools. Get one that is not too unwieldy for large or small hands. A set of different sized Phillips screwdrivers and a set of different sized regular heads screwdrivers is also a good choice for a basic and tool set. If you only want to get one screwdriver, there are screwdrivers with interchangeable heads that come as a set with both Phillips and regular heads. Buy a crescent wrench and a set of regular wrenches too. Put in a cutting blade with the holder and replaceable blades. Don’t forget a nice measuring tape that either retracts by itself or that has a handle for winding up. If you are giving all of these hand tools, consider adding a flashlight with the batteries, and an assortment of different types and sizes of screws and nails. Then top it all off by buying a nice heavy duty tool chest with a handle that can be carried around the house, the garage or outside. Remember someone moving into a new home or apartment is going to be doing all the basic things like installing shelving, lighting drawers, hanging pictures and assembling things, so these basic hand tools will help them get their new home or apartment set up.
