What is a floaty pen?

Floaty pens are an odd kitchy sort of pen, simple but a lot of fun. One of the most recognizable styles are the strip pens but there are thousands of designs that go way beyond that stereotypical image of what a floaty pen is and most are family friendly. They have a large fan base of people who collect them wherever they find them around the world. Floaty pens are the pens that have a design inside a liquid filled barrel or half barrel of the pen. Some are stationary pictures and the most fun ones have a moving element inside, like a floating character or item or even words. Tourist spots often carry them with a moving representation of the tourist spot that is selling them, like a cable car floating on a San Francisco street or a girl riding through a tulip field on a bicycle in the Netherlands. Companies also sell or give them out as promotional items, a very fun way to advertise. There are even floaty pens made for special occasions like weddings or graduations. They are custom made to a design submitted by the purchaser. For the avid collector, part of the fun is finding them all over the world and sharing the new discoveries with other collectors. Displays can be quite ornate. Some people have thousands of different floaty pens in their collections. Evrey collector has their own personal favourites. It is a relatively inexpensive souvenir to buy and small enough to pack easily on any trip. The most famous company to make them and the ones most highly prized by collectors are made by the Eskeson company located in Denmark. Anyone can design one and order a supply of them, so the possibilities for collectors are constantly added to. See if you can find one and check them out. Mama Nono
