What is the best way to bathe a dog?
Bathing a dog can be a difficult task if they don’t like taking a bath. They will fight it the same way some children do. Other dogs love baths and get excited at bath time. Small dogs are easier to bathe. You can run water in a sink, a large container that will hold water or in the bathtub. Then you can either have them jump in the water or pick them up and put them in yourself. It isn’t as easy with large dogs. They need more space to bathe. A walk in shower with a shower head on a long hose works very well for large dogs. If they are the kind of dog that hates bathing, block the exit off and make sure you close the bathroom door so they can’t blot out and run all over the house covered in soapy water. They can also use the bathtub if they can get in and out of it easily. For larger dogs that resist baths, you may have to get in the water with them or have a second person to assist you. Make sure you get two or three appropriate sized towels ready before hand and place then close to the bathing area. You have to get them out of the water and immediately put the towels over them to get the extra water before they shake and spray it all over. Dry them off once, then use another dry towel to dry them again. Their fur will retain moisture under all the thinks layers. Use warm water unless you are cooling them off in a heat wave. Use a dog shampoo, as many human shampoos will irritate their noses and their skin. Make sure you rinse them off thoroughly. Mama Nono
