What is the difference between prepaid and regular cell phones?

What is the difference between a prepaid cell phone and a regular contract cell phone?

A regular contract cell phone requires that you sign up with your chosen cell phone company for a contracted period of time. It is often for a one to three year contract. Many companies offer better rates that way and it guarantees them a steady stream of income coming from contracted clients. They also often offer discounted or free phones along with the contract. The best thing to do is to shop around for the specifics that you are looking for in a cell phone service and then compare their rates for the particular services they offer. You may want nationwide service at a set rate or a family plan or even specialized long distance to a certain country. A regular contract will tie you into a regular set minimum monthly payment going to the cell phone company you signed up with. A prepaid cell phone works differently. For people who cannot afford a set amount each month or for people who want limited usage so someone doesn’t run up a huge cell phone bill, children for example, the prepaid cell phone option works really well. It may also come with a phone or a discounted phone but to use it, you have to buy time, usually with a prepaid time card. The services are often more limited with a prepaid phone. Once your time runs out on the prepaid , no bill comes but you have to go and purchase more prepaid time to be able to use the cell phone again. There are pluses and minuses to each type of cell phone service. Mama Nono
