Why do I need a designated driver when I drink?

Category: Uncategorized

Why is it necessary to have a designated driver when you go out partying? I can control my drinking.

To coin an old phrase, “It is better to be safe than sorry.” That is really true where drinking and driving are concerned. If someone is both willing and responsible enough to be the designated driver for a social event of any kind, then there are no worries when it is time to go home and you can enjoy yourself at the party or gathering. There won’t be any drivers driving who think they are fine when they really aren’t. Some bars and restaurants will reinforce the idea of the designated driver by providing soft drinks or other non-alcoholic drinks to the designated driver. It benefits them too. Drunk drivers kill and maim people every year. If something as simple as having a designated driver prevents those kinds of accidents, it is so worth it. It shows responsibility and respect to others, not to mention it is illegal to drink above a certain blood alcohol level. If you get in an accident after you have been drinking the fines can be severe. If it is a reoccurring problem you can lose your license or spend time in jail. Isn’t it easier to have a person who willing to be the designated driver? When people drink they often think they are more capable with their driving than they really are. Reaction times and judgment gets altered when you drink and people make stupid mistakes, The problem with drinking and driving is those stupid mistakes can be made behind the wheel of a large piece of machinery that can kill and injure people. Accept the offer if someone wants to be the designated driver and thank them for caring enough to make the offer. Mama Nono
