Why do little kids have temper tantrums?

Kids have tantrums as a way to vent anger, hurt or frustration. Sometimes they don’t know how to express themselves in an appropriate manner. They may not have the words to use to vent out the emotions they are feeling, so they throw a tantrum. They don’t know how to get you to listen and they haven’t learned that they don’t get everything they want when they want it. A tantrum is an expression getter but it is also a way that a child has to release what they are holding inside of them. Adults have bursts of anger too and often adult bursts are a lot more destructive than a kid’s tantrum. Kids may also throw tantrums to get attention. Pay attention to me they are saying. As an adult you have probably felt times when you get so angry or frustrated that you feel like you are going to burst. Kids are just the same. They haven’t learned how to deal with those emotions inside of them, so in their purest form they come out as temper tantrums. Sometimes though temper tantrums have an even more simple source. A child who is overtired and wound up may spin out of control and let loose some of that exhaustion in the form of a temper tantrum. Kids have emotions the same way adults do. They also don’t like to be ignored any more than we do as adults. Adults have to teach kids how to deal with their emotions in a much more constructive manner than throwing a temper tantrum.
